🎨 How to color it

Layer deep indigo into the owl’s faceted wings, use burnished gold for the crescent moon and eye-stars, and shade the leafy branches in muted sage and olive. Because the feathers, moon ring, and background are packed with small triangles, use sharp colored pencils and fill each section from the outer border toward the center. Try a quiet night-gradient behind the owl—smoky violet at the top fading to pale blue near the talons—so the black tattoo lines stay crisp.

Every evening before the lamps warmed the brass rails, Brynn climbed the observatory rookery and copied the owl’s star-map, one slow point at a time. The ink smelled of rain and iron; the bird never blinked. Until one night, the final star refused to match the sky. Because of that, Brynn waited through cold tea and creaking rafters. Because of that, the moon slid behind the owl’s perch and lit the one place no one cataloged: the shadow under its feet. There, a tiny silver mark opened like breath, and the missing star answered from under the hush.
