🎨 How to color it

Color the spider’s body in deep garnet and bronze, the web panes in pale moonlit blue, the leaves in olive and sage, and the hanging dew drops in clear aqua. Use sharp colored pencils for the many stained-glass sections, shading each tiny pane from its black outline inward to keep the lines crisp. Try making the four large dew drops glow warmer at the bottom, as if the spider has caught bits of sunrise in them.

Under the cedar eaves, Selvi kept a private rule: she would not sip until the fourth dew drop gathered on the outer ring. Three already trembled there, round as glass beads, smelling faintly of bark and night rain. The fourth was taking its time. So Selvi stepped from the warm middle of her web and crossed toward the coldest strand, counting each touch of silk in whispers no moth could overhear.

The price was small, but real: frost kissed the hairs on her legs, and a gust made the web hum like a plucked silver thread. At the far edge, the fourth drop finally swelled—but it held more than water. Dawn slid into it, gold first, then rose, then a secret blue Selvi had never seen from the center. She drank only half and carried the shining rest back, slower than before.

By morning, her web no longer felt like a waiting place. It felt like a window. And under the cedar eaves, Selvi kept a new private rule: sometimes the fourth drop is worth the coldest strand.
