🎨 How to color it

Give the ghost a pale blue glow, the corn leaves deep green with golden ears, the hay bales straw yellow, and the jack-o’-lantern bright orange. Use sharp colored pencils for the many narrow corn leaves, coloring each stalk from the outside edges toward the center so the path stays clean. Try making the winding path a soft moonlit gray that grows lighter near the ghost’s feet.

Under a crisp moon, Orin slid through the corn maze with a pocketful of dry maple leaves. He wanted to mark the moon route before the midnight lantern parade arrived, so he placed one leaf at each turn and listened to the stalks hiss shhh-shhh above him. The path curled past square hay bales and a grinning pumpkin, then doubled back so neatly that Orin’s own leaf arrows seemed to wink at him.

He did not rush. At every fork, he counted three cricket chirps, touched the cool dirt, and waited for the corn to sway. A yellow ear beside his cheek gave a tiny rattle—not from wind, but from inside. Orin peeled back one papery husk and found a rolled ribbon map tucked where kernels should have been, glowing with little silver footprints.

The maze had not been hiding the way; it had been letting him arrive at the right ear. Orin followed the ribbon’s shimmer past the pumpkin and hay, adding his leaves beside the silver marks. Next time you spot the puzzled little question in the corn, see if you can tell which ear was patient enough to keep the secret.
