🎨 How to color it

Color the monster truck body fire-engine red, the giant tires charcoal black, the crushed cars silver and pale blue, and the stadium lights bright lemon yellow. Use sharp colored pencils for the tire treads, suspension springs, engine pipes, and rows of tiny crowd marks, saving broader marker strokes for the truck panels and arena floor. Try a dusty tan shadow under the smashed cars so the red truck looks like it just rolled through a secret cloud of dirt.

The story behind this coloring page

Why Big Rig Bows — Under the midnight arena, Tobin polished a brass valve cap no bigger than a pea. Read the full story →

Under the midnight arena, Tobin polished a brass valve cap no bigger than a pea. It had been his mother’s, and he screwed it onto Big Rig’s front tire before every run, tapping it twice for luck while the grandstands hummed like bees behind the concrete walls. He wanted one clean jump over the three junk cars before the judges rang the silver bell. Then a thin hiss came from the shadows. Sable, the rival truck, sat crooked with one tire sighing flat.

Nobody watched the service tunnel except a moth circling a hot light. Tobin’s fingers closed around the brass cap. Without it, Big Rig might wobble; with it, Sable could roll out safely. “Keep quiet about this,” he whispered, and spun the cap onto Sable’s valve. The hiss stopped. The air smelled of rubber, dust, and rain waiting outside.

When Big Rig charged into the arena, his bare valve stem flashed. At the crushed-car hill, the front tire dipped low, almost like a nod, then climbed high and true. The crowd thought the dip was part of the show and roared for it. Ever since, monster trucks lower their noses before the biggest crush, honoring a secret gift no one was meant to see. If you spot that front tire over the wrinkled cars, you know where the first bow began.
