🎨 How to color it

Color the lily petals soft ivory with blush-pink shadows, the stamens golden ocher, the long leaves deep green, and the unopened buds pale lime. Use sharp colored pencils for the thin vein lines, pulling each stroke from the flower’s center outward along the petal curves. For a subtle twist, add a lavender-blue shadow behind the curled petal tips so the ivory bloom looks bright and moonlit.

The story behind this coloring page

Under the frog-click dark, Sable tightened her little reed satchel and left the safe notch in the willow bark. She wanted one drop of moon-lily nectar for her grandmother’s bitter tea, and the nearest bloom grew across the black-water marsh. The air smelled of mud and mint. Twice, cold dew slapped her wings; once, a cattail burr snagged her satchel and stole her best red thread.

At last she reached the tall lily. Its open cup glowed pale as milk, but every golden anther was dry. “Please,” Sable whispered. A soft tap answered from a closed bud beside her. Nobody checked buds for nectar, so she pressed her ear to the green seam and heard tick...tick...tick, like a tiny clock.

She waited while mist silvered her feet. The bud loosened, not into a flower, but into a pearl-hard seed wet with one perfect drop. Sable carried it home, and the tea turned sweet enough to make Grandmother hum. Next time you notice the tight buds near the open lily, listen for the frog-click dark.
