🎨 How to color it

Give the bat’s body deep aubergine, its wing panels smoky teal, the crescent moon antique gold, and the surrounding vines sage green with silver stars. Use sharp colored pencils and color each mirrored wing section from the outer black ribs inward so the tiny scallops, teardrops, and leaf shapes stay crisp. For a dramatic twist, shade the background scrolls from midnight blue near the bat to pale lavender at the page edges.

The story behind this coloring page

Vesper Waits for the Moon — Every night, Vesper skimmed the star garden’s iron trellis, counting wind-spirals by the feel of air against her wings. Read the full story →

Every night, Vesper skimmed the star garden’s iron trellis, counting wind-spirals by the feel of air against her wings. She wanted the same thing each flight: to mark the one perfect current that opened only beneath the crescent. Until one night, the moon went dark behind a knot of silver vines, and a moth with glassy wings struck her path like a thrown spark.

Because of that, Vesper chased the moth through cold loops of jasmine scent and thorn-shadow, missing three currents she had waited weeks to test. Because of that, the garden woke noisily—seedpods rattled, leaves hissed, and the hidden crescent began to turn like a lock. “Not yet,” clicked the moth.

Vesper held herself still, wings aching, while the vines unwound petal by petal. Finally the moon opened, bright and patterned, and the perfect current rose under her chest. She rode it once, patient at last, over the star garden’s iron trellis.
