🎨 How to color it

Try smoky violet for the bat’s wings, warm ivory for the crescent moon, silver blue for the clouds, and deep green for the twisting vines and leaves. Because the wings, moon bands, and vine paths are divided into many narrow stained-glass pieces, use sharp pencils and color each section from the black outline inward. Add a quiet surprise by blending the moon from pale gold at the inner curve to pearl gray at the tips, so it glows above the violet bat.

The story behind this coloring page

Liora’s Unseen Moon Game — Between the glassy vines of the old conservatory, Liora invented a game with the crescent moon. Read the full story →

Between the glassy vines of the old conservatory, Liora invented a game with the crescent moon. She called it Silver Turn: each time she flew a loop, she chose one sleeping thing below and gave it a scrap of moonlight no one would notice. A curled fern received a bright edge. A snail’s wet trail became a tiny road of stars. The air smelled of rain on leaves, and her wings made a soft paper hush.

She played until the clouds thinned and the moon seemed almost spent. Then Liora saw the twist in the game: every gift had been passed along. The fern bent its shining edge toward a beetle. The snail’s road led a moth safely around a puddle. Even the vines held bits of silver like patient hands. No one applauded. Nothing thanked her. Still, the whole conservatory gleamed back, generous and unwatched, beneath the same crescent moon.
