🎨 How to color it

Layer tangerine and golden yellow into the sun and rays, use deep teal and sea-glass green for the broken wave panels, and give the palm fronds olive with warm brown trunks. Because the surf, clouds, and shell bands are divided into many narrow stained-glass pieces, use sharp colored pencils and shade each pane from one edge toward the center. Try making the sky warmer near the horizon and cooler lavender-blue at the top, so the seashells feel lit by the last August glow.

At the glass shore, Eira set herself a quiet August challenge: count every ray before the sun touched the water. She pressed neat marks into damp sand with a scallop shell, while the palms clicked dry fronds above her and the tide breathed salt around her ankles. One ray, then another, widened through cloud and foam. Halfway through, she noticed the shells had been counting too—not in lines, but in spirals, each whorl holding a small curve of light. Eira stopped numbering and began following, curious past measure, until the last ray and the first shell mark became the same golden path.
