🎨 How to color it

Color the ice cream cart creamy white with cherry-red panels, give the striped awning mint green and pale yellow bands, and shade the tall park trees leafy green with warm brown trunks. Use sharp colored pencils for the cart’s wheel spokes, menu lines, cone grids, and tiny bell, then switch to broader strokes for the path and tree tops. Try making each scoop a handmade flavor—blueberry lavender, peach, pistachio, and chocolate—so the row of cones looks like a secret recipe test.

The story behind this coloring page

The Bell Beneath Maple Shade — Under maple shade, Quincy pressed a blank recipe card flat on the ice cream cart and smelled sugar, bark, and rain in the air. Read the full story →

Under maple shade, Quincy pressed a blank recipe card flat on the ice cream cart and smelled sugar, bark, and rain in the air. He wanted to write one flavor that was truly his, not copied from the neat menu board. The trouble was that every idea tasted borrowed: vanilla from the shop, mint from the gum jar, berry from yesterday’s sign.

So he stepped away from the cart, past the empty bench and down the curving path, carrying a wooden spoon in his pocket. A small, silver-haired bell-mender was kneeling by the grass, oiling a handbell no bigger than a plum. “What sound should a flavor make?” she asked. Quincy stirred the air with his spoon and listened. Leaves clicked. Wheels creaked. Far off, a dog barked once. He traded his last waffle cone for a pinch of bell dust, which smelled like cold metal and honey.

Back at the cart, Quincy folded maple crumbs, honey, and one bright pinch into the cream. When he rang the little bell, the scoop shimmered softly, and he wrote: Maple Shade Chime. If you spot the bell under the awning, you’ll know where the secret sound went, still tucked under maple shade.
