🎨 How to color it

Try pale cream or duck-egg blue for the eggs, golden tan for the woven reeds, olive green for the tall leaves, and soft brown for the cattails. Use sharp colored pencils for the many crossing nest strands, coloring one strip at a time so the woven lines stay clear. Add one tiny sky-blue shadow under each egg to make the quiet nest feel cool and sheltered.

Between the tall reeds, Sora stood with one webbed foot in the mud and one on dry grass, trying to step nearer to the eggs without bumping the nest. The morning smelled of wet stems and warm cattail fluff. Every time the wind moved, the woven reeds made a tiny creak, and Sora pulled back, afraid her clumsy foot would press the wrong place.

A silver line appeared on a bent leaf. It was a snail, carrying a shell striped like a little moon. Sora held her breath while it crossed the rim of the nest, slow as a shadow. “Does it creak because it’s breaking?” she whispered. The snail’s feelers tipped toward the eggs. “No,” it said. “It creaks because the reeds are making room.”

So Sora leaned in until her down brushed a feather at the edge. The nest gave a soft, straw-sweet sigh, and the eggs stayed still as stones warmed by sun. First-time courage felt smaller than a splash: just one careful foot, then another. If you peek among the crossed reeds, you may find the path where Sora heard the nest breathe.
