🎨 How to color it

Try a cobalt blue helmet, a cherry red bike frame, warm tan storefronts, and a bright yellow pedestrian crossing sign. Use sharp colored pencils for the wheel spokes, brake cables, and traffic-light circles so those narrow lines stay crisp. Add a sneaky sunset glow in the shop windows, with orange on one side of each pane and pale pink on the other.

Every afternoon, Ellis pedaled home past the brick school corner and gave himself one tiny challenge: do something useful before the light turned green. He could zip a loose backpack, nudge a rolling soccer ball from the gutter, or make three perfect clicks with his brake lever—click, click, click—before the signal changed. Until one day, a delivery truck coughed oily rainwater across the crosswalk, leaving a shiny puddle where little shoes would step. Because of that, Ellis stopped so fast his tires squeaked like startled mice. Because of THAT, he spotted a torn cardboard poster flapping from the school door, smelling like wet paper and grape marker.

He hopped off, folded the poster into a ridiculous scoop, and scraped the slippery mess toward the curb. “No skidding on my watch,” he whispered, though nobody was near enough to hear. The crossing sign blinked. The traffic light hummed. A line of kindergartners appeared around the corner just as Ellis swung back onto his bike, trying to look as if he had only been admiring clouds. Their sneakers pat-patted safely across the cleaned stripes. Next time you see his hands on the handlebars under that hanging light, see if you can catch the secret of the sneaky green.
