Every morning before the bellbirds sang twice, Princess Talia snipped scraps in the botanical terrace and dared herself to make one new thing without a single royal helper. This week she wanted a parade train made by her own hands, so she cut leaf-shaped feathers from old invitation cards until her fingers smelled like glue and garden mint.
Until one day, a peacock named Sir Glimmer strutted across the table, sneezed at the paste, and sent half the feathers fluttering into the hibiscus. Because of that, Talia tied the remaining pieces to her sash with twine. Because of that, Sir Glimmer decided her train was a rival peacock and began bowing, spinning, and pecking loose every crooked knot. “Stop critiquing my craft!” Talia laughed, chasing him between warm stone pots.
At last she plucked fallen real feathers from the path, stitched them with silver thread, and added her paper ones wherever gaps winked through. Sir Glimmer gave one solemn nod and tucked a final feather behind her crown. When the bellbirds sang twice, Talia swept into the parade with glue on her thumb and pride in every swish—can you spot the feather that Sir Glimmer chose before the bellbirds sang twice?
