🎨 How to color it

Color the snowdrop petals snowy white with a pale green cap, the long leaves deep spring green, and the bare tree branches soft brown. Use chunky crayons or markers for the big leaves and hill, and don’t worry if little hands color over the thin branch lines. Add a secret touch by making the curved hill light lavender-blue, so the white flower looks like it just popped through cold ground.

Under the bare branches, Pippa pressed a bit of moss into a tiny cap. She wanted the first snowdrop to wear something made by her own hands before the frost-bell rang. The air smelled sharp as ice, and every twig went tick, tick in the wind. But her cap was plain, and the flower bud shivered on its thin neck.

“Not finished,” Pippa whispered. She searched the snow-crust, the bark cracks, even the sleepy buds. Nothing. Then a bent leaf brushed her mitten with a soft swish. Inside its fold hid a green bell seed, small as a freckle. Pippa stitched it onto the cap, and the bud tipped forward to guard the secret shine. Ever since, snowdrops wear green caps and bend low over the place where winter hides its first surprise—can you spot the leaf that helped Pippa?
