🎨 How to color it

Try a classic preppy palette: navy blue for the big bow, cherry red for the fruit, blush pink for the plaid hearts, and soft gold for the round medallion rims. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny flowers, dots, lattice lines, and narrow ribbon stripes, coloring each little stained-glass section from the edge inward. For a polished twist, shade the bow from deep navy at the folds to pale blue at the centers, then keep the background panes in cool mint and ivory.

The story behind this coloring page

Before the clubhouse stirred, Maris carried a cotton cloth and a saucer of lemon polish to the glass stairwell. She had set herself a small test: brighten one window without moving a single chair, ringing a single bell, or leaving her initials anywhere. The old panes smelled of dust and citrus. As her cloth circled cherries, hearts, and ribbon curves, dawn gathered in the seams like pale tea.

She worked slowly, counting each plaid square by touch, letting the raised leading guide her hand. The bow at the center caught the first gold light and seemed to hold it, not shine it back. “Just enough,” she whispered, and tucked the cloth away before anyone’s shoes clicked on the stairs.

Then the sun rose higher, and the surprise appeared on the landing wall: not Maris’s reflection, but dozens of faint handprints, small and large, glowing inside the colored shadows. The window had been made from donated pieces, each pane given by someone who never signed a name. Maris smiled at the quiet company of them all, and left the stairwell smelling of lemon, with one forgotten window bright before the clubhouse stirred.
