Every afternoon, Orson practiced his secret rooftop challenge: land beside the vent stack without making the soup cans on the ledge go clink. The city below smelled like pretzels and bus smoke, and his cape snapped behind him like a giant red flag. “Quiet as a cookie,” he whispered, then dropped from the sky.
Until one day, his boot hit a loose brick with a WHUMP, and twelve pigeons burst from the water tower carrying a cardboard sign: TOO LOUD! Because of that, Orson chased them over chimneys and antenna wires. Because of THAT, the sign snagged on his cape and flapped above him like a silly parade banner.
Finally, Orson landed on the cracked roof, fist down, one knee bent, holding perfectly still. The pigeons circled, listened, and changed the sign to JUST RIGHT. Orson grinned; the rooftop rumbled under his boots, the skyline cheered with tiny window-winks, and if you spot the windy cape, you’ll know exactly where he belonged: quiet as a cookie.
