🎨 How to color it

Layer crimson on the cape, deep cobalt on the S shield, electric yellow on the lightning bolts, and cool silver on the small round emblems. Use sharp pencils and color from the central shield outward, so the narrow scrolls, leaf veins, and bolt points stay crisp. For a dramatic twist, blend the outer ring from midnight blue to violet while keeping the cape warm and bright.

Under the observatory dome, Cassian carried a copper thimble in his glove, the last small thing his sister had pressed into his palm before the storm took the speaking wires. He had come to wake the city’s emergency beacon, but the switch sat inside the old signal circle, where thunder made the glass hum and every bolt drew white roots across the sky. The thimble seemed useless, except that it warmed whenever he turned toward the center.

He stepped in because no one else was small enough to slip past the broken gears. The air smelled of rain on hot metal. When Cassian raised his shaking hand, the thimble clicked against the clasp of his cape, and the cloth lifted—not blown, but listening. Lightning struck the rim, ran through the woven silver threads, and gathered safely in the beacon’s heart.

By morning, every cape in the city was stitched with a hidden bright thread, and ever since, capes catch lightning first, so courage has one quiet second to arrive.
