🎨 How to color it

Layer smoky amethyst on the crystal shards, pale aqua on the nested diamond frames, and soft graphite gray on the smallest angular facets. Use sharp colored pencils and work from the central hexagon outward, so the tight mirrored lines stay crisp. Try leaving the center hexagon white while deepening the outer crystals into a violet-to-indigo glow.

Under the low lamp, with cedar dust sweet on her sleeves, Mirel pressed a ruler against the last sheet of frost-glass and cut by hand. She wanted her first mandala to sing when the evening bell rang, the way the old masters’ pieces did. But every shard she set into place gave a thin, nervous tick, and the whole workroom seemed to shiver with it.

She searched the bright edges, the long diamonds, the tiny splinters, all the places anyone would expect a song to hide. Nothing. Then her thumb brushed the plain center stone, the one she had nearly left unpolished. Beneath it waited a hollow no wider than a breath, holding the softest note she had ever heard.

Mirel set the stone back with both hands. The ticks gathered around that hush and became music—not loud, but steady, like snow touching a window. Her chest warmed with the proud ache of something made carefully, piece by piece. Ever since, mandala centers have stayed quiet, keeping the first handmade hush that lets all the other shapes sing.
