🎨 How to color it

Layer watermelon pink through the central teardrop petals, use deep rind green on the outer arc bands, and add black-brown to the tiny seed dots and paisley centers. Because the design is packed with narrow curls, leaf veins, and dotted trails, use sharp colored pencils and color one wedge at a time from the center outward. For a mischievous twist, hide one unexpected golden seed among the darker dots near the thick inner ring.

Every evening, Sloane checked the festival melon seal in the printworks vault: petal, curl, dot; petal, curl, dot. The brass presses smelled of oil and sugared rind, and the paper stacks whispered when she walked past. She wanted, just once, to sign the final proof before Master Vell could say, “Careful, Sloane.” Until one evening, her pencil snagged on a dot that giggled.

Because of that, she lifted the smallest seed mark with her fingernail and found a folded note no inspector had thought to check: TRY THE BLANK CENTER. Because of that, Sloane pressed the unprinted middle with her thumb, and the whole seal spun like a pie plate, flinging harmless pink ink onto Master Vell’s cuffs. He stared; she snorted first. Then, with shaking fingers, she signed her name in the clean center, where courage had been hiding under one giggling dot.
