Before the first birds clicked in the reeds, Tavi crept through the silver-wet grass with a frayed red thread under his paw. It had fallen from the old kite his father once flew, and Tavi was sure it could still pull a secret from the sky. He wanted to tie it to the tallest cattail before sunrise, but the wind kept snatching it sideways, tickling his nose with mud and pollen.
His sister Rina whispered, “That string is watching us.” Maybe she was right. The thread slid from Tavi’s paw, looped around their mother’s whisker, and drew one tiny gleam from the rim of the sun. Hush—don’t tell everyone—but the whole savanna held still. The sun leaned on the far hills as if caught by a promise.
Their mother blinked, slow as honey. She lifted her head, and the thread came free, leaving a bright line of gold across her whiskers. Ever since then, sunrise waits a moment over tiger grasslands, just long enough for cubs with racing curiosity to wonder what else a plain little thread might know. Next time you see those whiskers by the tall grass, can you keep the secret too?
