🎨 How to color it

Color the backpack deep teal, the rolled bedroll sunny yellow, the hiking boots warm chestnut, and the pine trees dark forest green. Use sharp colored pencils for the boot laces, mesh side pockets, buckles, and zipper pulls, then switch to broader strokes on the pack panels and sky. Try a sunrise gradient behind the hills so the teal pack and chestnut boots look ready for an early start.

The story behind this coloring page

Before the sun cleared the ridge, Soren set his boots toe-to-toe beside his heavy pack and listened to the straps creak in the cold. He wanted the first steps on Quartz Pass, where the trail turned silver after rain. Pine needles smelled sharp, and the clouds sat low and pink like coals under ash. “Not yet,” whispered the ranger, checking the mist.

So Soren waited. He counted zipper teeth, tapped each buckle, and watched a beetle march over one boot lace. The mountain woke in tiny clicks: drip, chirp, pebble-roll. Then a round marmot popped from the rocks, wearing a blue thread caught around one paw like a bracelet. It did not run. It bowed, squeaked twice, and tugged the thread toward a narrow side path sparkling with dew.

Soren followed after the ranger nodded. The path did not climb fastest; it curved past a hidden spring where the pass shone in the water before it shone in the sky. By the time he shouldered his pack, the mist had lifted, and the silver trail waited ahead. Next time you spot those laces and buckles, see if the marmot’s blue thread is hiding there too.
