Between two salty waves, Pax nudged a floating can with his nose and called, “Bottle-bop, can-clink, tire-tuck!” He had just invented the best game in Cleanup Cove: every bit of bobbing junk got a silly name before he pushed it toward the shore baskets. The water smelled like seaweed and sunscreen, and the waves slapped chuff-chuff against an old bucket.
Soon Pax added rules. Bottles had to be carried with a grin. Nets had to be dragged without wearing them as hats. Tires counted double if a fish peeked through the middle. Up on the sand, three humans in caps bent and picked and laughed so hard their trash bags crinkled like popcorn.
Then Pax heard a whistle. The humans were holding up fingers—three, two, one—judging his dives like a beach show! So he rose with the Earth Day bottle balanced in his mouth, gave one mischievous tail-splash, and earned ten wiggly fingers. Next time you spot that bottle, you’ll know exactly where Pax belonged: between two salty waves.
