🎨 How to color it

Color the dolphin a sleek blue-gray, the starry hoop golden yellow with navy stars, and the pool waves bright turquoise. Use fine-tip markers or sharp pencils for the small circles and stars on the hoop, then switch to broader strokes for the dolphin’s smooth body and the splash. Try a sunset blend behind the clouds so the golden hoop looks like it is catching warm stage light.

Under the quiet marina roof, Koa nudged a plain wooden hoop across the pool, tap-tap, because he wanted to make the first jump gate all by himself. The keepers had left smooth boards, rope, and a tin of sea-safe glue that smelled like pine needles after rain. But Koa’s hoop looked lonely. Every time he splashed through it, the crowd seats answered with only a soft drip, drip, drip.

He searched the toy basket, the shell bucket, even under the rubber fish. Nothing shone. Then his tail bumped the dock railing, and a hidden strip popped loose with a sandy sigh. Inside were tiny brass stars, flat as cookies, forgotten from an old night show. “I can use these,” Koa clicked, pressing each one around the hoop with careful, proud little squeaks.

When he leaped, the stars caught the lamplight and flashed like a pocket of sky. Ever since, dolphin hoops have worn stars to remember the first one made by patient fins; next time you see those starry edges, you’ll know where Koa hid his handiwork.
