Every afternoon before his birthday dinner, Vinnie set forks, cups, and napkins in ruler-straight rows, then added one secret paper clue under each plate. He wanted his new game, Cake Table Trick, to make everyone guess where to sit without anyone noticing he had made every card himself. The dining room smelled like wax, sugar, and the orange marker he had used too long.
Until one day, his little cousin sneezed into the confetti bowl. Pffft! The clues skidded under cups, party hats, and the enormous cake stand. Because of that, Uncle Ray sat where the “best duck noise” clue landed and quacked at the punch pitcher. Because of THAT, everyone began trading seats by clue, not name, laughing so hard the candle flames wobbled.
Vinnie grabbed blank scraps, drew faster, and made new rules: striped napkin means trade, star banner means cheer, balloon side means freeze. “No peeking, only guessing!” he shouted. Finally the whole table played the game he had built with scissors, markers, and sneaky little cards.
