🎨 How to color it

Give the donkey a soft warm gray coat, the star halter a cranberry red, the manger straw golden yellow, and the hanging lantern a cozy amber glow. Use sharp colored pencils for the thin straw lines and wood grain, then switch to broader strokes for the donkey’s smooth body and the stone floor. Try a pale blue wash around the bright star so its points feel extra clear against the stable beams.

Under the hill stable’s beams, Lior nosed the last sweet hay from his manger and listened to the lantern hiss. He wanted one fresh bundle from the loft, the hay that smelled like summer fields, but the ladder rungs were too steep for hooves. So he slipped through the side stall, past cold stone underfoot and sleepy chickens, and nudged open the storage gate with his nose.

Halfway across the courtyard, a pale flutter bumped his ear. A star-moth, silver as moon frost, trembled in a puddle beside the hay cart. Lior could have kept walking; the loft door was open, and the good hay waited above. Instead, he bent low. “Hold still,” he whispered. With one careful breath, he warmed the moth’s wet wings until they lifted, slow and shivery.

The moth rose to the rafters and shook loose a tiny shower of light. It settled on Lior’s halter stars, making them glow bright enough to guide him back without a single mouthful of rooftop hay. In his manger, the plain straw now smelled faintly of summer fields. If you trace the little stars near his face, you may find where patience left its shine under the hill stable’s beams.
