Under the blue-black hush, Elian steered his saucer low over a sleepy pasture, holding out an empty glass sound jar. He wanted one brave moo for the Moon-Museum’s quiet shelf, but every cricket chirp made his fingers pinch the controls tighter. Then the beam caught something warm and lopsided below. A cow rose through the gold light, eyes round, hooves bicycling the air, breath smelling like clover.
“Please don’t drop my moo,” the cow whispered, and that was not what Elian expected. His own voice came out small. “I won’t.” He softened the beam until it hummed like a lullaby. The cow’s black patches began to drift, slow as clouds, sliding over her sides to show she was still a little scared but still staying.
Elian opened the jar, not to take the moo, but to share his first brave hum. The cow answered with one wobbly, wonderful moo, and her patches settled wherever they had wandered. Ever since, cow spots never line up the same way twice; if you check this pasture visitor, you might catch the clover-scented moment they chose their places.
