🎨 How to color it

Color the bat’s body smoky lavender, its flower-filled wings deep teal, the sugar-skull moon warm ivory, and the scattered blossoms marigold and coral. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny petals, skull dots, leaf veins, and wing panels, working from the bold outlines toward the smallest curls. Try a midnight-blue wash or light pencil shading behind the stars so the ivory moon and teal wings feel extra bright.

Between the hanging marigolds, Nyx tapped one claw against her roosting stem and listened to the soft tick-tick answer. She had made herself a challenge: fly past the far flower arch, touch the crescent moon’s shadow, and come back before the night jasmine closed. The arch smelled sweet and dusty, and beyond it the sky looked stitched with stars. “Just there and back,” she whispered.

Her wings brushed cold petals as she left the safe tangle. A silver burr caught in one wing pattern, tugging hard enough to make her wobble, and she had to give up her favorite seed bead to free it. Then the crescent shadow opened like a quiet door. Inside, a tiny skull-shaped moon bell hummed, not scary at all, just lonely. Nyx rang it once with her nose.

The sound rolled through every flower, low and round, and showed her the way home by echo instead of sight. She returned with no bead, but with a new note tucked in her ears. Next time you spot the crescent moon’s shadow, listen for Nyx’s soft tick-tick answer.
