🎨 How to color it

Color the bat’s fuzzy body violet, his wing membranes smoky lavender, the startled cat pumpkin orange, and the crooked fence weathered brown. Use sharp colored pencils for the fence boards, bare tree branches, and the tiny haunted-house windows, then switch to broader strokes for the bat wings and cat fur. Try a deep blue-to-purple night sky behind the crescent moon so the bat’s big smile and the cat’s raised tail pop.

The story behind this coloring page

Under the big silver moon, Pipkin zipped over Crooked Lane with a crinkly paper moon-map clutched in his toes. He had cut it from old seed packets, tied the corners with thread, and marked every fence post with berry ink. “This turn, then the leaning house!” he called, wings snapping through the cold air like tiny flags.

The map worked better than any echo. It showed where the path bent, where stones bumped under paws, and where the bare trees made scratchy shadows across the road. Pipkin swooped low to check his finest part: a tiny flap he had folded to point home. Below him, a black cat sprang up with a puffed tail and round, moon-bright eyes.

Then the cat blinked—not at Pipkin, but at the map’s shadow. On the pale dirt, Pipkin’s careful cutouts made a giant dancing bat, fence, and crooked roof. The cat gave a small, impressed “Mrrp.” Pipkin puffed with pride so hard his fur ruffled. Next time you spot that wide grin above the lane, see if the handmade moon-map is still casting its secret show under the big silver moon.
