🎨 How to color it

Color the puppy golden tan, the big pumpkin deep orange, the cornucopia warm brown, and the sunflower petals bright yellow around a cocoa center. Use sharp colored pencils for the acorn caps, corn kernels, berry circles, and leaf veins, then switch to broader strokes on the puppy’s body and pumpkin ribs. Try a secret autumn glow by shading the leaves from cranberry red at the stems to amber at the tips.

Under the old harvest trees, Quill pressed one paw to a maple leaf and invented Leaf-Listening: if a leaf crackled twice, he stepped left; if it whispered once, he stepped right. He wanted the game to lead him to the grove’s hidden snack bell before dusk. The air smelled of dry grass and apple skins, but the leaves kept pointing toward a basket-horn tucked beside a pumpkin, not toward any bell.

A tiny sound came from inside: tick, tick, shush. Quill’s ears drooped. The horn’s curled end looked like a dark tunnel, and he had never put his nose where he couldn’t see. “Just one brave sniff,” he told the leaves. He tapped the rim with his collar tag.

The horn answered with a low, round hum that rolled through corn, berries, flowers, and acorns. Its tip curled tighter, holding the sound safely inside, and every harvest horn after that kept a curl so autumn’s plenty would not spill away too soon. Next time you spot that curled horn, see if you can find where Quill first dared to tap.
