🎨 How to color it

Color the unicorn creamy white with a lilac-and-aqua mane, make the watermelon red with a green rind, and fill the big sun with golden yellow. The blanket has long straight stripes, so try coloring every other band first with chunky crayons, then go back for the crossing lines. For a fun sticker look, add rosy pink cheeks and make the horn stripes alternate lemon yellow and soft purple.

The story behind this coloring page

Juniper Waits for the Seeds — Every day, Juniper carried one watermelon slice to the checkered blanket and saved the black seeds in a little leaf cup. Read the full story →

Every day, Juniper carried one watermelon slice to the checkered blanket and saved the black seeds in a little leaf cup. She wanted to plant a cool green snack patch for the hottest part of summer, but the seeds just sat there, shiny and still, while the noon sun hummed warm on her nose.

Until one day, a tiny sunbird landed on the rind and tapped, tink-tink, like a spoon on glass. “Wait for the sweet shadow,” it chirped. Because of that, Juniper did not gobble the slice. Because of that, she noticed the sunbeams move, slow as honey, until one beam touched every seed. Finally the seeds gave a soft pop-pop-pop, and tiny vines curled from the cup. Next time you see Juniper’s big watermelon grin, can you spot the patient seeds that started it?
