🎨 How to color it

Color the megaphone bright white with a cherry red rim, make the pom-pom strips sunny yellow and royal blue, and fill the stars with gold. Use chunky crayons or broad markers on the big megaphone shape, then switch to the crayon tip for the skinny pom-pom ribbons. Try putting tiny red and blue dots along the megaphone handle so it looks handmade for a pep parade.

Under the park’s sycamore trees, Pippa taped shiny paper around a cardboard cone. She wanted to make a pocket pep parade all by herself before the picnic bell rang. Snip, rip, pat—her fingers smelled like glue and oranges from lunch.

She tied paper strips into two pom-poms and marched along the gravel path. Crunch, crunch, swish! “Ready? Cheer for the ants!” she called, lifting her cone toward a tiny ant line.

Then the gold stars she had cut from wrappers blinked. They were lantern bugs resting on the tape, glowing like little parade lights. Pippa grinned and gave her homemade cone one proud shake. Next time you see the stars around it, can you spot which ones might blink back under the sycamore trees?
