🎨 How to color it

Use royal blue for the batter’s helmet and shirt, tan for the bat, bright white for the baseball, and brick red for the catcher’s gear. Chunky crayons work well on the big helmet, bat, and home plate; the laces on the shoes and ball can stay scribbly or be skipped. Try making the bleachers pale gray and the trees soft green so the blue batter pops forward.

Every day, Pip tapped the tee: tap-tap, tap-tap, while the grass smelled sunny and warm. He liked the same little sound.

Until one day, the tee went hmmm. A shiny green beetle peeked up beside the ball. “Hello,” whispered Pip.

Because of that, Pip held his bat very still. Because of that, the field got quiet too—no stomps, no shouts, just hmmm and the soft wind in the seats.

At last, the beetle lifted its wings and buzzed away. Pip swung: tap-tap! If you peek at the tee, maybe you can hear the tiny hum.
