Behind the costume closet’s squeaky door, Juno shook out a red cheer bow and listened for the tiny chime inside. She wanted everyone at the winter pep show to feel that happy tingle, but the room was dim and smelled like rubber sneakers. The bow just sat there, soft and quiet.
