🎨 How to color it

Try navy blue and white uniforms for the cheerleaders, a red coach jacket, honey-colored wood flooring, and soft gray mats stacked by the bars. Use sharp colored pencils for the shoe laces, ponytail lines, mat lettering, and shelf details, then switch to broader strokes for the open practice mat. Add a fun twist by shading the word “PRACTICE” in a bright team color that matches the cheerleaders’ hair bows.

Every afternoon, Daphne lined up on the mat, snapped her arms into a high V, and listened for Coach Marra’s clicker: tick, tick, tick. She wanted to know why a frayed orange ribbon was tied to it, because the ribbon smelled faintly of rain and popcorn, not gym chalk.

Until one day, the ribbon slipped loose and skittered across the polished floor. Because of that, Daphne chased it past stacked mats and swinging bars, where it snagged on a tiny brass hook. Because of THAT, the storage shelf creaked open, spilling out an old team map marked with arrows, stars, and one scribbled word: UP. “That’s not part of practice,” Daphne whispered.

Finally, she followed the arrows back to her line and raised both arms. Sunlight from the high windows hit the ribbon, flashing orange on each teammate’s bow like a secret signal. Next time the clicker goes tick, tick, tick, can you spot the ribbon that smelled of rain and popcorn?
