Every evening, Tamsin clipped one fragrant bloom for the rooftop squad’s bow and hid the rest from the city pigeons, whose coos sounded suspiciously like gossip. Until one day, a velvet-winged greenhouse moth landed on her scissors, wearing a stolen petal like a cape. Because of that, Tamsin chased it through warm basil steam and knocked a tray of buds into both pom-poms; because of that, the whole cheer burst into accidental flowers. Finally, laughing too hard to scold, she tied every bloom on the bow and let the moth keep its ridiculous cape.
