🎨 How to color it

Try cherry red for the big megaphone, royal blue for the CHEER pennants, golden yellow for the stars, and white-and-teal stripes on the sneakers. Use sharp colored pencils for the sneaker laces, pennant letters, and pom-pom ribbons, then switch to markers for the broad megaphone and flag shapes. Make the curling rainbow bands repeat pink, orange, lime, and aqua so the whole doodle seems to bounce behind the cheer gear.

Behind the pep club’s supply cart, Junie lined up two starry sneakers, three paper pennants, and one dented megaphone that smelled faintly of popcorn. She had invented Patience Parade: you could move only when a pom-pom strand stopped wiggling. “No rushing the sparkle,” she whispered, as the cart wheels squeaked and the hallway lights buzzed like tiny bees.

The game grew bigger by inches. A bow became the bridge, a lightning sticker meant leap, and a curly rainbow chalk line meant freeze until your shoelaces quit twitching. Junie hopped, waited, hopped, waited, while the silver pom-poms shivered soft as rain. At last she reached the final pennant without bumping a single cone.

Then the megaphone gave a papery pop. From inside rolled a confetti cloud of tiny hearts and stars, already marked with neat little check marks. The old cheer gear had been playing scorekeeper, rewarding every careful pause. Next time you spot the star sneakers and the patient pom-poms, listen for Junie’s whisper: no rushing the sparkle.
