🎨 How to color it

Color the big headphones sky blue, the smiling music notes lemon yellow, the treble clefs grape purple, and the tiny hearts bubblegum pink. Use sharp colored pencils for the small faces, stars, and wavy sound lines, then switch to markers for the wider headphone bands and ear cups. Try giving each round headphone face a different cheek color so the whole pattern looks like a secret concert crowd.

Under the school’s old band bleachers, where dust smelled like chalk and brass polish, Zuzu set herself a daring little challenge: make the loudest song in the world without making a peep. She pressed one finger to her lips, slipped on her squishy headphones, and tapped the cord three times. Tap, tap, tap. The music map in her notebook woke up with tiny ink stars, curly clefs, and notes that wiggled their feet.

Zuzu added quiet sounds: sneaker squeaks, pencil scratches, the fizzy pop of someone opening grape soda nearby. Each sound became a smiling note that bounced across the paper. She almost giggled when a bass note tried to march backward. “No shouting,” she whispered, brave enough to add the tiniest hum in her throat.

Then the headphones hummed back. Not a recording—an answer. The ear cups had been collecting Zuzu’s almost-sounds all week: swallowed laughs, nervous breaths, and the brave little hums she never let out. Together they made a song so big it tickled the bleachers, but only Zuzu could hear it. Next time you spot a star beside a grinning note, maybe that’s where Zuzu’s quietest loud song is still tap-tap-tapping.
