Every evening, Zuzu counted the jagged flashes that crackled across the monster-pattern sky. She wanted to map every zig, zag, and zap before the dots blinked out with a soft pop-pop smell like warm batteries.
Until one evening, a black dot beside her toes shivered and whispered, “Wrong way!” Because of that, Zuzu leaped after it through a crackling doorway. Because of THAT, the fuzzy scouts tumbled into a racing hallway of purple sparks, where each lightning turn changed places when someone blinked. Their raised paws brushed prickly static; their single eyes watered with bright silver light.
At last, Zuzu stopped chasing and shouted, “Hold the zig!” The dot froze, the bolts lined up like stepping-stones, and the scouts stamped a new route home. Next time the dots begin to pop-pop, can you find the one that looks ready to whisper?
