Each evening, Tavi lined up the sky jars on the moon shelf and listened: plink from the raindrops, hum from the hearts, twinkle from the stars. She wanted one sound she had never heard before, so she waited with both hands folded, while the air smelled clean and silver.
Until one evening, the quietest jar gave no sound at all. Because of that, Tavi held it to her cheek and felt a soft tickle. Because of that, she turned it slowly, past the tiny dots and curled wind marks, until a hidden door in one spiral popped open. Inside slept a seed-sized bell, wrapped in starlight. “Oh,” whispered Tavi. She rang it once, and every cloud answered with a gentle drip-drop song. Next time you see a curly little spiral, listen closely—the sky may be waiting with both hands folded.
