🎨 How to color it

Color the lion’s fluffy mane golden orange, the heart-shaped nose soft pink, the stars lemon yellow, and the paw prints sky blue. Use chunky crayons or markers for the big round face and mane, and don’t worry if little hands color over the bold sticker border. For a fun twist, make every other star purple so the lion looks like he is sitting in a secret nighttime game.

The story behind this coloring page

Calder’s Star-Paw Secret — Under his soft blanket nest, Calder pressed leaves into little paws and stars. Read the full story →

Under his soft blanket nest, Calder pressed leaves into little paws and stars. He wanted to make a game called Star-Paw Path before moonrise: step on a paw, hop to a star, whisper the secret word. But his leaf shapes tore with a dry crick-crack. “I need moon clay,” he said, and padded out to the sticker grove, where the air smelled like cool dust and minty grass.

The moon clay waited under a silver bush, smooth and cold as pudding. Calder scooped it, but it stuck to his toes—squish, plop, squish—all the way home. He nearly grumbled until his sticky paws stamped bright prints behind him, and tiny stars blinked where his claws had tapped. Calder shaped the clay by hand into paws and stars, proud down to his whiskers. Next time you see the little prints around him, can you guess the secret word for Star-Paw Path?
