Behind the blue toy basket, where the carpet smelled like dust and crayons, Pip pressed his nose to a shiny bubble. He wanted to know why it squeaked “pip-pip” whenever the room got quiet. So he slipped off his warm cushion, past the block tower and the red heart stickers, and padded after it. The bubble bounced between paw prints that had not been there before.

By bedtime, Pip had no treat, but he had a secret route around the whole playroom. Next time you spot the hearts and paw prints, can you guess which bubble squeaked first?
