🎨 How to color it

Try bubblegum pink for the heart pom-poms, sky blue for her pleated skirt, lemon yellow for the hair bows, and peach for her cheeks. The big heart shapes and wide hair sections are perfect for chunky crayons or markers, with no need to stay perfectly inside every line. Add a secret sparkle by coloring each tiny star a different bright color around her ponytails.

Behind the music room, where the floor smelled like lemon polish, Nell tucked a tiny silver bell into her sleeve. She wanted it to jingle only for the cheer circle, not for the shadowy pep nook with its whispery walls.

But the bell slipped. Ting! The sound bounced off old megaphones and paper stars. Nell hurried after it and found two plain pom-poms waiting in a dusty basket. “Who called me?” she whispered. The pom-poms puffed closer, soft as kitten fur, and the bell rang again—thump-ting, thump-ting—like a happy heart.

Nell lifted them, and two heart shapes bloomed right in the fluff. Ever since, cheer pom-poms have carried hearts so every cheer can find the person who belongs in the circle. If you spot the hearts in Nell’s hands, maybe you can hear that first thump-ting too.
