Under the art-fair tent, Willa slid a navy checker bow sticker across her scrapbook and whispered the rules of her new game: trade one secret cheer shape, no names, no peeking. She wanted the last silver star for the corner of her page. The air smelled like glue sticks and kettle corn, and every paper bag rustled like it knew something.
When no silver star appeared, Willa stepped away from her cozy stool and followed a trail of tiny lightning-bolt cutouts past the pennant rack.
