Under the striped awning of Sweetstem Meadow, Lottie tied ribbons around loose candies, swish, pull, knot. She wanted every lemon drop, taffy twist, and chocolate button to have a snug bunch before the evening bell chimed. But one small round candy kept rolling away, leaving a soft sugar smell in the grass.
“Wait for me,” whispered a tiny flower-sugar sprite, peeking from its wrapper. Its petals drooped. “I don’t fit in bowls.” Lottie tucked the sprite into the middle of a bundle and tied the blue ribbon gently. The candies leaned close, warm and crinkly, and the sprite smiled so wide that the other sweets smiled too.
