🎨 How to color it

Color the glass jar pale blue, the two big spiral lollipops cherry red and lemon yellow, the striped candy sticks mint green, and the gummy bears orange and raspberry pink. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny wrappers, bear faces, and sign letters, then switch to smooth marker fills on the large scoops and jar rim. Try making the spilled candies at the bottom brighter than the candies inside, as if they are carrying the store’s secret glow.

Behind the tallest jar, where the counter smelled like sugar dust and lemon polish, Nico invented Overflow: if a candy rolled out, he had to follow it until it stopped. He wanted one perfect round to prove the game worked before the Joyful Candy Store opened. A striped sweet bumped his shoe, chimed tink-tink, and rolled past the scoop rack into the shadowy aisle of bins.

Nico stepped down from his safe stool and chased it. The floor was cold through his socks. He paid the game’s price when his pocket ribbon snagged on a licorice hook and tore into a short, silly tail. The rolling sweet stopped beneath a wooden sign that whispered when the air conditioner hummed: “Joy grows louder when passed along.”

So Nico carried the sweet back, plus the secret, and tucked it on top of the jar. When the first kids pressed close to the counter, the candies glowed like tiny lanterns, too bright for one player to keep. Next time you spot the spill near the jar, listen for tink-tink behind the tallest jar.
