🎨 How to color it

Give the mom’s shirt a bright coral, the child’s jersey a sky blue, the TEAM pennant a sunny yellow, and both footballs a classic leather brown. Use sharp colored pencils for the shirt lettering, flag words, shoe stripes, and football laces, then switch to broader strokes for the pants, grass, and bleachers. Try making the two GO flags match with alternating yellow and blue triangles, like a tiny cheer traveling across the sideline.

The story behind this coloring page

Quincy’s Wandering Cheer — Under the soft clack of bleacher seats, Quincy tucked a football against his ribs and lifted his little pennant. Read the full story →

Under the soft clack of bleacher seats, Quincy tucked a football against his ribs and lifted his little pennant. He had invented Flag-Follow: point the flag wherever the faintest cheer came from, take ten steps, and listen again. His mom laughed gently and raised her bigger pennant. “Lead on, captain.” Quincy left the warm blanket spot, passed the chalky sideline, and followed a whispery rah-rah that seemed to slip between the trees. Grass brushed his socks. He paid his price when his last honey cracker crumbled in his pocket, sweet dust sticking to his fingers.

The cheer did not come from the loud crowd. It came from a tiny paper pennant stuck upside down in the grass, its GO! bent by the breeze. Quincy set his own flag beside it, and the two flags fluttered together—tap, flap, tap—as if answering each other. He carried the small flag back for everyone to share, and Flag-Follow became a game about finding quiet cheers, not loud ones. Next time you see the bent pennant near the grass, can you guess which way Quincy’s wandering cheer will run?
