🎨 How to color it

Color the pumpkin face bright orange, the helmet navy blue with white stripes, the bats purple, and the crescent moon pale yellow. Use chunky crayons for the big pumpkin and helmet, then switch to a sharper crayon tip for the football laces, stars, and skinny tree branches. Try making the two footballs different shades of brown so the hidden one by the helmet feels like a sneaky Halloween prize.

The story behind this coloring page

Quill’s Pumpkin Pause — Every evening, Quill tucked his lucky leaf tag under the kickoff ball and waited for the moon to clear the crooked trees. Read the full story →

Every evening, Quill tucked his lucky leaf tag under the kickoff ball and waited for the moon to clear the crooked trees. He wanted the first thump to happen at moonrise, not one blink sooner. The field smelled like grass, pumpkin skin, and cold mud.

Until one night, the pumpkin helmet sneezed. “Pffft!” Out popped the ball, rolling past the bats. Because of that, Quill chased it through crunchy leaves. Because of THAT, the bats giggled and hid his leaf tag inside the helmet’s face mask. Quill sat still, tap-tap-tapping his knee, until the moon slid high and silver.

Finally, the pumpkin helmet grinned and dropped the tag right onto the ball. Quill kicked at moonrise—WHUMP! Next time you spot that leaf tag, keep quiet; it waited for the moon, too.
