🎨 How to color it

Color the boy’s wavy hair chestnut brown, his striped maracas sunny yellow and coral, the giant music notes sky blue, and the leafy plants bright green. The big shirt sections and maraca bands are perfect for chunky crayons or markers, while the thin sound wiggles look neat with a sharp pencil. Try making each burst ray behind his head a different warm color so the music feels like it is popping right off the paper.

Under the leafy bandstand, Rafi shook his two maracas: chika-chika, cha! He wanted the curvy park path to sound so silly that everyone passing by would have to join in. His striped shirt fluttered in the warm breeze, and the big notes above the benches seemed to bounce along. A pigeon bobbed. A squirrel tapped an acorn. “Again!” cried Rafi, grinning so wide his cheeks felt round as drum tops.

Then, between two chikas, something answered from his shirt pocket: peep-peep-POP! Rafi stopped shaking. The sound came again, tiny and cheeky. He reached in and pulled out a little seedpod he had forgotten after lunch, rattling with three dry seeds like baby maracas. Rafi laughed, tucked it back, and shook all three sounds together until the path giggled with feet, paws, and wings. If you spot his wavy shirt next time, maybe that pocket is still going peep-peep-POP.
