Behind the wedding room, Hanni hunted for one clean napkin. The music thumped softly through the wall, boom-boom, and crumbs stuck to her bare toes. She stepped out of the safe corner by the baskets and peeked into the jar cupboard, where no child bothered to look. Her sleeve caught on a handle, and splash! Water kissed the floor. “Oh no,” she whispered, giving up her own dry cloth to wipe it.
Then a sweet smell curled from the biggest jar, bright as grapes warmed by sun. A servant dipped a cup, tasted, and ran laughing toward the tables. Hanni followed with her damp napkin flapping like a little flag. Soon everyone was smiling, and Hanni’s joy felt too big to hold. Next time you see the tall jar, can you spot where the cupboard began to laugh?
