🎨 How to color it

Color the bat soft charcoal gray, the floppy witch hat deep purple with a golden buckle, the cauldron iron black, and the ghost pale blue. Use sharp colored pencils for the hat buckle, wing ribs, tiny stars, bubbles, and curling steam, then switch to broader strokes for the cauldron and bat body. Try making the potion glow lime green to orange so the fire, bubbles, and little ghost feel lit by the same secret magic.

Past the thorn gate, a little fire snapped under Keller’s black pot, tick-tick, pop. Keller wanted to send warm cider to the stars before the frost made them wink out, but every bubble sank like a stone. The moon watched through pine smoke. Even Keller’s best spoon only made the cider smell of apples and ash.

Then a shy ghost drifted from behind the crescent moon, shivering so softly its edges fluttered. “May I have one sip?” it whispered. Keller tipped the ladle high. The ghost drank, and its smile glowed. Nobody in the clearing clapped; nobody even saw Keller give away the first warm sip.

But the ghost sighed a silver ribbon back into the pot. Up curled the steam, carrying apple warmth to each waiting star. Since that night, cauldron steam always rises first for the coldest thing nearby. If you spy the curled wisp above Keller’s pot, can you tell which star got warm first?
