🎨 How to color it

Layer the dragon in deep teal and jade, the crescent moon in antique gold, the lilies in cream and coral, and the tiny stars in pale silver. Use sharp colored pencils for the wing veins, horn patterns, and vine curls, saving broader marker fills for the dragon’s long body and open moon. Try a quiet twilight gradient behind the starlit pool so the gold crescent and pale lilies feel softly illuminated.

Along the lily canal, Serel laid one claw beside the water and invented a game: make no ripple until the moon’s reflection finished drifting through the reeds. The air smelled of wet leaves and night-blooming flowers, and each breath took the shape of a silver thread. He counted nothing aloud. He only watched the crescent slide, break, and mend itself in the black water.

The game grew slower than he expected. A moth brushed his horn with powder-soft wings; a vine loosened one curled tendril; far below, the canal stones shone like old coins. Serel almost moved when the reflection touched his nose, but the water held its glassy hush. “Not yet,” he whispered, and the whisper seemed too large for the banks.

Then the first lily opened. Not because of the moon, he realized, but because of his stillness: each flower was answering the spaces between his breaths. One by one, petals unfolded along the canal, marking turns in a game older than rules. Serel stayed until dawn warmed the last ripple, rewarded by blossoms that had been counting with him all along.
